Meditation & it’s Effects
The Alcohol Rehabilitation Centre in India
in collaboration with the Drug Rehabilitation Centre in India
states that, Meditation is not considered a 'cool thing' to do among the
youngsters, especially teenagers. What they want to do is just sweat out in the
gym rather than meditating at home or somewhere peaceful. What youngsters fail
to understand is that meditation is for everyone and not only will it make your
mind calmer and cool it will also help you in your workout.
The Alcohol
Rehabilitation Centre in India also commented that for centuries, meditation
has been used as an effective technique to work with the mind, and also to
provide relaxation, well-being and better health. Let's look at some of the
benefits of meditation which might help the millennials change their outlook
towards meditation.
1. Reduces Stress
It's the topmost reason for people taking up
meditation as an activity in their daily lifestyle. Mental and physical stress
causes an increased level of the stress hormone cortisol. This produces many of
the harmful effects of stress, such as the release of inflammation-promoting
chemicals called cytokines.
These
effects are disastrous and can disrupt sleep, promote depression and anxiety.
Meditation helps in attaining normal levels of cortisol, which in turn, helps
in releasing stress and anxiety.
2. Increased immunity
Studies in different institutes and research
organizations across the globe have seen a healthier immune system in people
who meditate regularly. Count of WBC, which makes your immune system strong, is
found to be higher in meditators.
Meditation practice helps the body learn to
relax and also trains the mind to settle the attention on an object such as the
breath and allow other thoughts and emotions to go by. Being skilled in
meditation might help you remove attention from thoughts which are causing
insomnia. When you are tension free and not focusing on negative aspects of
your life then surely you are going to have a good night's sleep.
The mental discipline you can develop through
meditation may help you break dependencies by increasing your self-control and
awareness of triggers for addictive behaviors. Research has shown that
meditation may help people learn to redirect their attention, increase their
willpower, control their emotions and impulses and increase their understanding
of the causes behind their addictive behaviors.
